I have been on the gambling therapy journals for a couple weeks now. I am very impressed with the support that everybody has for each other, I want to ask a question but am afraid it will come off insensitive, but I do want feedback as to your opinions.

I notice there are people who share their stories, they have a lapse and confess to the group, and try to work at it….they keep posting updates, and carry on a dialog with like minded people trying to find themselves, and ward off this evil that we all share.

My curiosity lies in some who ask for help but then have many re-lapses that they document. Shouldn’t these people look back at the previous times they have posted, and learn from themselves.

The definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting a different result. Personally I am on the forums, not to judge others, but to make a concerted effort to put support in place to have somewhere to turn if, and when I need help. It seems some post daily how it “went off of the rails again”. I know how it happens, because I have definitely been there, but I am here because I want to try to be different, and I want to make a difference….

I might just be sad for the folks who haven’t yet figured out what they want/need to do for themselves. Actually, I realize what the issue is, is that a lot of their posts remind me of my worst times, and it hurts to be brought back there….

I don’t want to go down that road again… I hope everybody shares whatever they want on this site, but I really hope that they can look back and review, because, sometimes, hopefully, enough is enough….and it is time to change.

good luck to all looking for the right answers for ourselves!

Hello Johnny and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you ??

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!

Thank you for sharing. I still have the excitement of the “newness” of the forums. I know I can’t say what will happen when that wears off. I have seen several “slips” after people said they stopped participating.

It is a shame that there isn’t a more seamless option to the forums….like newest post first or newest response first….some posts are great, and they just seem to die off.

Good luck Jappy…and to anybody who reads this. I am very proud to have made GT part of my daily reading, and it truly has helped so far.
