Today has been four days since my last gambling binge. I am so tired of chasing the „big“ win. I have won big in the past, but the money never lasted long. I always went back to win more. I would loose what I won and more. Needless to say my story is much like many others on this site.
I have gambled away all my savings and what money my husband left me when he died two years ago. The guilt and shame are at times more than I can deal with. It literally takes my breath away. I have contemplated suicide but my daughter is having a baby in two weeks and I just can’t go through with it.
I am so glad I found this site. I have spent the last two days reading posts and realized that I am not alone.
I hope to hear from others how they have dealt with their addiction and how to move on.
Thanks, Lucinda -

Hi Twnmum, well done on looking for help. Read the other threads here, you will see a lot of things that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
You will see that many people put barriers in place; where do you normally gamble? Get yourself excluded. How do you finance it? What financial barriers can you put in place?
The most important advice that I can ever give is – use the help that is availabel, if we could do it on our own then none of us would be here in the first place. Keep posting here, connect to the groups, check out your other support options such as Gamblers Anonymous meetings.
There is a lot of life after gambling, you can enjoy being a grandmother. By focusing on your own recovery you will be better placed to also be ther for your daughter, grand daughter and other family. Keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are taking.

How are you doing?
I’m so sorry about your husband.
My daughter has just had her first baby, my first grandchild.
It is a feeling I have never felt before, being a granny rocks!
You can do this Twnmum. Time to end this viscous cycle of hate and despair and begin to live again. You have so much to live for.
You need to get your barriers up, ask for help from people you know and trust, they may not understand it, but you need major support right now. What about GA? This forum is brilliant and saved my life, keep posting and reading, it all helps and fills extra time.
The urge to gamble becomes easier to control when you stop. When you put barriers up. You have taken a great step in coming here and admitting your addiction, now is the time to start walking the road of recovery. You deserve it. The money is gone, acceptance of that is so difficult but necessary. You need to start over, start fresh.
Tomorrow is a new day, the past is past and cannot be changed, gambling will only make things worse.
I thought I could never ever stop.
Lost my home and almost everyone that was dear to me.
I wont say its easy, and Its no bed of roses when you have some gamble free time under your belt but…….
Your mind will become clearer, the fog will lift and you will see things differently. You can enjoy small things, and appreciate whats right in front of you.
Gambling will only bring you pain.
I hope you are doing ok.
Drop a line when you are able.
Take care, Love K xx
