I don’t believe in coincidence when it comes to recovery.
At the Gamblers Anonymous meetings I go to we celebrate gamble free anniversaries – it in no coincidence that those who reach that milestone are there most weeks.
It is no coincidence that those who take positive actions have a greater chance of success.
In the forums it is no coincidence that those who keep a thread running, connect to the groups, download the app, take the advice etc have a greater chance of success
It is no coincidence that those who work recovery and address the character traits that addiction can give us have a greater chance of success.
It is no coincidence that those who put the barriers in place without leaving loopholes have a greater chance of success.
It is no coincidence that those who are honest – whether with with family, at GA, in the forums, with counsellors if they use them, maybe especially those who are honest with themselves have a greater chance of success.
It is no coincidence that those who continue to use support to maintain recovery have a greater chance of continued success.
Sadly it is also no coincidence that those who don’t put the same effort into their recovery as they put into their gambling have less chance of success.
Read the other threads here and you will see the success stories. Look at what positive actions are they taking – it’s no coincidence.
Spot on that Charles. Thank you for posting. It reminds me to stay on track, to keep putting the effort into my recovery.
