Testing The forum Fonts – ‘What does “Problem Gambler” mean?’, We use different words to describe people who gamble which relates to how much they gamble and what impact it has on their lives. A “controlled or recreational gambler” is someone who gambles for entertainment purposes only.

This term refers to someone who only gambles money they can afford to lose, experiencing few or none of the negative consequences that result from gambling to excess.’, A “problem gambler” is someone who often gambles more than they can afford to lose experiencing some of the negative emotional and behavioural effects mentioned below.

The problem gambler label can also be used as an umbrella term for anyone whose gambling is out of control to a greater or lesser degree.’, Someone with a severe gambling problem is a “compulsive”, “pathological gambler” or a “gambling addict”.

Someone falling into this category would be consumed by gambling, often pre-occupied with re-living past gambling experiences or planning their next venture. A gambling addict would regularly lose more money than they could afford to lose and often gamble additional money in an attempt to win back what’s been lost (chasing). A problem gambler will incur many of the negative emotional and behavioural effects listed below as well as other effects including financial ones.’,

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward.
