Hi to anyone reading. I have been on and off gambling for years now. I’m 39 and married with kids.
I do football and horse racing and I am totally addicted and need to stop. The urge to have a bet on never leaves me and I’ve used my credit cards to top up my bank accounts and maxed them all out.
Not looking for pity or sorrow as it’s 100% my fault. What I want is somebody to tell me how it stops, how do you stop the feeling of needing a bet.
Every bet I put on at the time of placing it it’s going to win and sure o win some but I lose way more.
Never ending cycle and I’m sick of it. I’m ashamed and embarrassed that I’m so weak I can’t stop.

Hello Chris and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums
Here at Gordon Moody Global we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you ??
Take care
Gordon Moody Global Team TeamPS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!

Hi Chris, you can stop I promise you.
But words. promises, even intentions rarely stop us gamblig – it is actions that count.
Look at the otehr stories here and you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also see some of the actions you cn take.
You will read how barriers can help. For instance get yourtself excluded from where ever it is you usually gamble. If it is online then you can alos instal blockers on your devices.
Financial barriers also help. Your partner could help with those. Limit your instant easy access to gambling funds. Put things in place so that you are accountable and can’t gamble secretly.Filling your time is going to be important, fill both your time and thoughts away from gambling. Your partner could help with that as well.
Most of all use support – whether that is here, places like Gamblers Anonymous, counselling, other online support. There are a lot of options these days. If we could do it on our own then none of us would be here.
Keep posting and let us know what positive actions you are taking. I hope to meet you in a group here soon as well.
