Just wanting to know if anyone on this forum has had to file for bankruptcy. I have made some bad investments in my life and they stemmed from my gambling in the past. Now I am in quite a bit of debt and I am thinking of filing BK
nIf anyone here has done it is there any advice you can give me?
      nThanks
      nGilly

Bankruptcy will stay with you longer than other options, so it should be avoided if you can. Also, it may not solve all your financial problems. It’s not a simple process.
      n
nFind a credit counselor that has a good reputation. Watch out for the shady quick fix operations. A good one will take the time to fully understand you situation. They should give you several options and be able to fully explain all of them.
      n
nIt’s a long road to come back from some of the damage we have done to our lives. Part of a long term successful recovery is dealing with the financial mess in a way that puts us on a good path going forward. It can be hard but give you a great sense of accomplishment.

      Hi Gilly,
      n
nBankruptcy won’t solve your problems unless you address your gambling addiction. Maybe get to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting. That way you can address your gambling and meet others who have also had financial problems – they could point you in the direction of otehr local support.
      n
      nKeep posting.
