I’m wondering if anyone has been successfull with overcoming addiction by taking anti depressants? I have always suffered from depression (not anxiety). I’ve never received treatment. I’ve also never been so insanely addicted to gambling. It’s gotten exponentially worse and I’m willing to try anything.

I am on day 42 abstinence after hitting rock bottom. My Gp agrees I am depressed but was happy to go with my view to not want a chemical cosh to function. I am fairly sure that antidepressants help some people but they are also addictive. Better to get to the root cause of the depression. No doubt that a gambling addiction causes severe depression and can induce manic depression with the highs and lows. This is just my own view. Best to speak to a medical professional. Sanity and regaining back ourselves can happen when we stop gambling. My outer circumstances have nit changed and that would depress anyone but my GA friends have noticed a difference in the broken me that went to my first meeting and the me now with all my problems. Hope that helps.

      Hi Fitz,

OK, so you have a gambling addiction. You also have depression. Whilst I can see both triggering each otehr in a very viscious circle they are still both problems in their own right.

If you need depression tablets then that should be what your Dr has decided is the best course for your depression, not to somehow stop the gambling.

There is a lot of support for your addiction, read the other stories here, you will see a lot of things you will relate to. You will also see the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation? What barriers can you put in place?

As Monicau has said GA is another option – Gamblers Anonymous. Check them out as well.

You are willing to try anything? Well I hope I have given you a few places to start. Keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are taking.

Fitz is a good example of this problem. He needs help. Reached out once. And is gone to gambling again. Come back to us Fitz.
