Good article. I can agree with the well defined reasons for gambling. Now I would like to see an article of the same caliber with studies or ideas to counter-act those reasons for gambling. Gambling addictions like a black hole that seems too complicated for many folks with the “know how” to want to pick apart and analyze a clear and concise explanation. It seems the smart ones with the “know how” are working against us working for the casino, instead of working for us or offering any real world help. There’s a deep black hole and a bunch of helpers only want to peek their head in and make a snide remark or quick quip or comment. I commend anyone with deep commitment on this subject as I am a dedicated student.

One thing I have tried. I take the gambling money to a shop, and buy something I need, say paper towels… but I buy a ridiculous amount. Like fill the entire car with paper towels. I have discovered a few things. I spend considerably less money than what the casino will take from me. I find it hilarious to think of wagering all of those paper towels instead of monetary wagers of the same exact value. It makes my gambling look just as equally ridiculous to me and sometimes I even laugh out loud. There is far less harm involved in a car full of towels or soap… you WILL eventually use it. Oh…tell the neighbors you caught a sale, they will either think you’re a genius or an idiot… but at least they will not think that you’re a degenerate gambler.

I have just joined the site as well. I have a similar gambling issue. I made it 28 days without one single wager and something I used that helped me was an app on my phone. The app was just a day counter that counted the days since a certain event. My event was my quit day. Each day I would see the number and I would maintain just a small thought of “don’t break the streak… not today” I’m going to try it again but I am in need of some more support. That is why I am here. I offer my support and I am glad to be here with everyone.
