    Hi IKICDB

I wouldn’t dream of telling you that you ‘need to rectify your personal situations’ – there are no easy answers, no magic bullets and I do not own a crystal ball.

You have done really well writing your first post. ‘You’ made the decision to open up here; it could not have been easy and yet you managed it and found it therapeutic.

I understand ‘losing oneself’ whilst trying to keep others happy; it’s an easy situation to fall into and difficult to rise against but you have acknowledged that you know that you can do it, which is a fantastic rallying cry. You know you can take ‘your’ life back under ‘your’ control and now I know it too.

You are not to blame for wanting to escape. You didn’t ask for, or want, the problems you are experiencing. I’m so sorry you feel there is a stigma attached to the way you feel and I do urge you to share your feelings with your dogs who will never judge but just love you for who you are.

I’m going to leave it there for now. I just wanted you to know that there are people listening who want to support you as you gather that ‘tremendous amount of will power and strength’ to change you life. It will take time but just for today you have taken a big step so once again – well done.

Hello Shashinick and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

    And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you ??

    Hi

Maybe its time to find some love for yourself and reintroduce joy to your life. Self-loathing will change nothing but acceptance and a determination, to take back control of your life, can change everything.

Look at yourself in the mirror and see the man your wife fell in love with, the man you want to be. He is still there but he is lost. Give him some credit for trying and tell him, from me, a non-gambler, that I know he can learn to control the demons in his head. If it wasn’t so, I wouldn’t be here, writing to you.

The Friends and Family groups are facilitated by me on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7pm – 8pm. Your wife would be welcome and understood, as you are here. It took many wasted years to find the support I needed but once I looked in the right place, I learned to support myself and thus the gambler in my life. Our lives are healthy, happy and gamble-free so I know you can do it.

I will follow your progress and look forward to the day that you look back on your journal and rejoice at how far you have come.

    Hello Idkwhattodo

Thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy friends and family forum. This forum will provide you with warmth and understanding from your peers.

Feel free to use the friends and family group, you’ll find the times for these if you click on the “Group times” box on our Home page

Read about the friends and Family Groups Online Groups

Now that you have introduced yourself you’ll find that many of the people you meet here have already read your initial introduction and they’ll welcome you in like an old friend ??

If you’re the friend or family member of someone who is either in, or has been through, the GMA residential programme please take extra care to make sure that nothing you say in groups, or on our forums, inadvertently identifies that person. Even if your loved one isn’t connected with GMA, please don’t identify them either directly or indirectly just in case they decide to use the site themselves.

You’ll find a lot of advice on this site, some of which you’ll follow, some you won’t…but that’s ok because only you fully understand your situation and what’s best for you and the people you love. So, take the support you need and leave the advice you don’t because it all comes from a caring, nurturing place ??

We look forward to hearing all about you!

    Take care

    Hi Justonee

I’m so pleased you knew where to come back to, to make your determined and courageous new start. You are not alone, you will always be heard here.

Complacency is your biggest foe but walking with others will help you remember that complacency can be defeated, if it wasn’t so, I wouldn’t be writing to you now.

Use this journal as a reference in the future, I will certainly be watching your progress.

I wish you a peaceful Christmas

    Hello again

Already you are creating a great journal to look back on and see how you are doing. Yes, there are days that were not so good but you got through them and they were all followed by days that you say you were having wonderful feelings of being alive and good. Those are the days to remember and as time goes by they will be more frequent, longer and even more wonderful – a lifetime of wonderful days is in your grasp.

A full marathon in December will be a real challenge but you sound as though you are ready for taking really big challenges on and giving them determination and courage – well done. I look forward to following your progress.

    Hi 009

Well done writing your first post

Instead of coming back to update ‘from time to time’, why not make it a daily visit so that you can see your progress. How about joining our facilitated groups and sharing your journey in real time. Take all the support you can get

You are being listened to and understood.
