Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums
Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. ?We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. ?We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. ?The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. ?So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you ??
Take care

Hi Kevrum
Congratulations on being accepted on to the Dudley project. It’s been 11 years since I was in the Dudley project and much has changed. But I’ll tell you what I can.
The project is 3 houses of 3 people making a maximum of 9 residents around a shared outside communal area. It’s completely different set up to Beckenham.
I’m afraid I couldn’t tell you about the programme. it’s changed since I’ve left
What I can say is many of the Therapists and management have been in the project for over 10 years offering a huge amount of experience
Kevin this is a short reply and in all honesty trying to explain about what happens is so hard. Trust the programme and go in with an open mind and a solid commitment to yourself. You’ve 14 weeks to cover a huge amount of work and acceptance don’t waste a second
Hopefully after 14 weeks were see you back here possibly supporting others
Kind Regards

I have recently completed the GMA programme and had a short stay in the half way house too…
I can honestly say, its the best place to change your life around if you really want too… i have tried GA, private consulting etc.. a residential treatment works… i am happy and content and aiming to lead a gamble free life – no i dont have a cure, i will always be a recovery gambler, i will always need to keep working hard but it will get easier and easier…
We have gambled for a long time and like me, you may have ruined everything but this programme will give you the chance to be reborn…Good luck… if you focus and make the effort to change , it can happen – the therapists are brilliant, all the staff are brilliant…trust in them and you can lead a gamble free life.
Well done for starting to change…

I am waiting for a place but not sure where it will be .I would also like to know what to expect . I have been a gambler for 20 yrs and have tried help with counselling, hypnotherapy and the NHS Clinic but with no success so I am prepared to try this programme .

Hi Kitch, you will see some previous replies to Kevrum below that you might find helpful I did’t go to GMA but my avice for any support would be to go with an open mind, be a sponge and soak up all the tools that they will give you. In the meantime I also suggest you check out the My Journal Forum so you can start getting support here now.

Hello all,
I am also on the waiting list. I’ve been told mid August I will probably be starting.
Feels like I’m in limbo at the moment as I don’t know exactly when I’m going, and I’m quite OCD and I like things planned out, and get very stressed if they aren’t.
I am gamble free 7 weeks today, and feeling great. I hope this will give me a head start on the rehab.
I look forward to possibly meeting some of you, as it looks like a few of us may be in together.
