One thing I noticed is that often when I gamble, I need to make time. Some of you can probably relate to this.
When I was working and had a fairly top notch position, I had the benefit of taking 2 hour lunches (or more) and no one would say a thing. I guess that’s one benefit of also being a nice and well liked guy. Anyway, I would sometimes sneak off to the local racetrack and place a few bets. Or I would find an excuse to leave the office early, a non existent doctor’s appoinment or client meeting.
At home, I would tell my wife I had to bring the car to get checked or I had to work a half day on Saturday. Anything to buy me at least 2-3 hours to go gambling.
I felt like I was always rushing and hurrying most tasks to create more time for myself to go gambling. At times, I hated this feeling but the urge to gamble was still greater than any regrets I was having.
I don’t want to do this anymore. I want to change my lifestyle and take things slow and spend time doing good things with people I care about.
