      Hello there,

I am John, I’m 23 and I have a gambling addiction. I use to play the slots, sports or poker. I can’t tell you how much I hate doing this; I don’t want to do anything disastrous like suicide or committing any crime whatsoever. I just hate it. It gives me a headache almost everytime I end. On most occasions it also takes all of my money and I don’t earn my money easily. I kept it a secret to my family and I intend to keep it that way for the sake of my relationship with them.

The first thing I have done today is self-excluding myself from all gambling websites. It’s probably the main reason for my continuous failed efforts to quit. It’s because it’s there all the time, you only need a credit card and a decent Internet connection. In the country I live it’s everywhere: ads on TV, casinos and betting shops on every single street, plus their online presence. Sometimes it feels like they’re chasing you. The thing is, I do know for certain that a big part of my gambling places are gone. I’m just afraid of the urges that I will go through when trying to convince myself that visiting an offline betting shop is a awful mistake.

Tomorrow I will do my next post, right now it’s 4:30 here.

If there’s anyone reading and feel like they want to leave a comment, please go ahead. I’m new here and I do want to get in touch with you guys and help each other out, if that’s possible. Thank you for your time.

      John

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you ??

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team
