      Hi Embob
Please keep reading and posting here, there really is hope and help available.  A gamble free life is possible you just have to learn some things to help you.. such as limiting access to cash, carry little money with you, and leave credit cards at home or cut them up.  Ban from venues if you can or online if you bet use betfilter software.. Try to find a GA near you.. and know that you can come here all the time.  You are not alone in this.. Many of us have felt like you including myself.. things will get better, some get it straight away, some take time with stumbles on the way. Just get through one day at a time.. Just for today dont gamble put it off till tomorrow and keep doing that.. Maybe you need to do it hour by hour do something else when you get the urge, anything, shower, crossword, movie, ****, eat, fix something, write a list of all the gamble free things you want to do.. one thing to remember too is this, urges will pass!!! no matter how strong they may feel, stop when you have one, you dont need to act on it, give it time, 30 minutes later it may have lessened, keep doing this and it will eventually go.. urges wont kill you but gambling may is what i have been thinking lately.. You are not alone, keep posting!!! we are all with you

Hi Embob. I do know exactley how you are feeling, In my life I have ended up being hospitalised more than once after trying to kill myself because of gambling. Gambling as you know can leave you feeling so desperate suicide seems at the time to be the only answer. You have had enough of life, as a compulsive gambler. The answer embob isn’t to end your life, just change it, you can learn to live life totally different to how you are, you can learn to live without gambling. Please read my original post on here "Recovery is journey, not a destination" you will see by reading that you are not alone in how you feel. You are not unique in your gambling stupidity. You will never be 'cured’ unfortunatley recovery is difficult especially at first but life is worth living, and recovery is worth fighting for. There is lots of help available but none of this help will be any good unless you are 100% commited to it, by this I mean you have to believe in yourself you have to genuinley got to want it.
Now would be a good time for you to self exclude from the places you gamble at, wether its bookies, casinos, bandit places or online they all offer self exclusion I would do it now if I were you, when you have no money and are feeling s**t. Because as you know soon as you have a few quid in your pocket the bills will be forgotten again. Try and get yourself to GA aswell. One thing about gambling, Embob, is you can not stop on your own you need as much help as possible with it, once you have accepted that you are powerless against this addiction and do need help with it you have one foot on the road to recovery. Please post a bit more about where you do your gambling and what your situation is. The more you post the more people can help you.
I look forward to seeing your next post, dont give up mate, you can beat this.
      Take Care.

      Dear embob2,
I remember seeking advice from a friend who came from the states in year 2006 about my frequent lapses and he pass me an A4 size paper with this story…. hope it helps.
Autobiography of an addict in 5 short chapters
      Chapter 1
      I walk down the street,
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk,
      I fall in.
      I m lost
      I m hopeless,
It  take forever to find a way out.
      Chapter 2
I walk down the same street,
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk,
      I pretend I didn’t see it,
      I fall in again.
      I can’t believe I m in the same place.
But I believe it isn’t my fault.
It still  take a long time to get out.
      Chapter 3
I walk down the same street ,
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk,
      I see it is there
      I still fall in
      it ’s a habit
      I know where I am
      It is my fault
      I get out immediately
      Chapter 4
I walk down the same street ,
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk ,
      I walk around it
      Chapter 5
      I walk down another street.

Gambling only adds to the pain,  its like a painkiller that numbs the area for a while but ?the  side affects actually make the original pain worseI must remember to ***** my blessing

Hi embob, welcome back.  I thought I recognised the name.  Just checked, you were here posting back in 2009 and got some great advice – what have you been doing since then?  Did you get to GA or take any of the other advice?
There IS life after gambling and you CAN stop gambling.  The finances can be sorted, if things are unmanageable then get yourself to the Citizens advice Bureau or similar agency.  There is a lot of help and advice like that here in the UK.
Whatever you sort out with the finances though its important you address the addiction this time, otherwise you will just be back here with a bigger problem in the future.  I hope you keep posting this time and stay focussed on recovery.  Let us know what positive steps you are taking.
