I am in the worst financial trouble I have ever been in. I kept telling everyone that I wouldn’t go to the casino anymore, but then I would go and lie about it. But I told my boyfriend the truth today and it hurt him so much because he can’t help me and he is angry and disappointed in me. I feel like there is nothing I can do to help myself get out of this hole…

worst financial trouble ever, Nettie?…..You ain’t seen nothing yet kid! When I was at your stage, I knew my luck was down, I’d had a bad month, a bad year, a bad 7 years in fact. I was broke, and I still convinced myself I’d get “even some” of my money back……Yea right , I was a fool. I spent more, borrowed more, misappropriated every family bill, borrowed more, earned more and threw all the good money after the bad, in the hope of winning ” even some” back…Take a fool’s advice Net, you will NEVER get your money back! Believe me, noone tried harder than I did!……Want to hear the Good News?…..there is lots you can do to help yourself AND lots your B/F can do to help you too……tune in for all the latest, but JUST for TODAY (only one day), don’t gamble…….

Hi Nettie, Nice to meet u on the chat!
First thing is do NOT expect your bf to understand, non cg’s don’t get it. When I look for support from my "friend" all i can ***** on is him not understanding and being mad at me. Then i try to find an excuse to gamble.
It’s not there fault. most "normal" people don’t throw large sums of money in a machine. Think about that.
Good u can see a problem now. Your recovery will start when u start. Lots of good advice here, post, chat, vent.
Set barriers. No cash = no gamble. Can u ban from the casino?

Just keep coming here.. read others stories.. post, go in the group chats, the one on one line.. Try to carry little cash with you, don’t carry cards.  If you get an urge to gamble know that no matter what it feels like at the time that it will pass.  Start doing something else even if its minute by minute or hour by hour.  Just worry about not gambling for today dont look too far ahead.. Just for today dont gamble, put it off till tomorrow and keep doing that.  Keep coming back

Welcome Nettie.  You have gotten good advice.  You have to remember this is a one at a time situation.  You must stay gamble free one day or one hour at a time.  Stay here and read.  You will learn about triggers and setting up barriers.  You can do this.  We can do this……..NancyWhat lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us………….

Hi Nettie and welcome to the forum.  Im sure you will be reading a lot you will relate to on the other threads here.  You will also be reading the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?
Promised not to go to the casino?  I made those sort of promises lots of ***** – some***** I even meant them!  It’s a tough addiction though and ***** more than words and promises to tackle it.
Theres no reason for your boyfriend to believe any promises now – how about if you ask him to go along as morla support whne you get yourself banned from that casino?  How about you ask him to drive you to your first Gamblers Anonymous meeting?  Actions speak louder than words and the actions that will helps you stop gambling are the same actions that will help you rebuild trust etc with your b/f.  keep posting and let us know what positive actions you are taking.
